Fantastic Mr. Fox [2009]

FANTASTIC MR. FOX

I have a lot of respect for the painstaking task of stop motion animation. It involves the intensive manipulation of three dimensional objects frame by frame- definitely considered a good day’s work! This movie came out earlier in LA and I had the chance to view it last night. Stop animation is the cherry on top for this project because it’s a Wes Anderson piece of cool-ness! I have not seen one movie that I did not like from this guy. The quirky, flawed nature of his characters coupled with his simple personal style to movie making to present chaotic situations and turbulent familial narratives is hands down one of the most appealing pieces of entertainment out there! It is hard for Wonderful Wes to disappoint. Watching anything by Anderson is like watching a good time reminiscent of Woody Allen, a warped Disney movie, and a gentrified neighborhood combined. For those who are new to his wonderful world, IMDB Wes Anderson and take it from there, you will not be disappointed.

Continued Adventures of White Gold.

“Battle for Milkquarious” is a campy white-ploitation film bordering on soft core porn angst. . .  this is a GREAT rock-opera about MILK- literally. If you watch TV, you’ve noticed the promos of this hilarious, yet dramatically educational event about MILK. Personally, I do not drink milk unless it is mixed with my coffee or chocolate.

Trudge and Don’t Budge.

October 26, 2009 by cinejunction

Most of us who are out of school generally dislike our jobs. Some of us are sucked into too many hours, while others find their job is boring or very stressful. There are a variety of reasons why people trudge through a job they simply cannot stand. There are also others who try and break out of their current states by coming up with ideas for businesses of their own that will allow them to ditch the job they are stuck doing or ditch employee life in general. In America, no one really likes a job where their history of violence is used to fuel the fruits of a select few or a cause that ultimately means nothing to the grand scheme of things

Below is a personal list of things that get me through my day job:

  1. SAVE MONEY: Knowing that you’re saving money for something productive will help erase the feeling that you “need” to go to work to pay your bills.
  2. Go to the movies. It will help recharge your personal batteries.
  3. Do absolutely nothing during your days off. Chill and don’t plan. Planned days off is as good as a day packed of things TO DO.
  4. Make time to spend time with good people, whether it be your family, friends, or pleasant co workers [outside of a job related function]
  5. Education. Going back to school can be an investment in your long term career ambitions [whatev it maybe]. Just make sure the whole thing is set up so that your loans remain less than the amount you started out with on graduation day.
  6. Do what you love. Enough said.
  7. Take a vacation- a real one where your plan is to do absolutely nothing. Itineraries on vacation is a contradiction.
  8. Keep note of what you don’t like and make sure not to regress on these points.
  9. Cooking can be a creative outlet that you are tempted to do especially when you come home hungry after a tired day at work.
  10. Put your current situation within reasonable perspective because it can always be worst. As much as it is addicting to express your thoughts and feelings about how much you don’t like your job, it is as important to express appreciation of what is going well in your life because you have a job.
  11. Volunteer or Help out. Someone out there can always use help.
  12. It took me a hard while to learn that there is always tomorrow. Finish what you can, submit what you have, and the rest will take care of itself.

These tangible experiences have made my job a lot more bare able  except for those days when I simply piss on the world. We all have those days because we are dynamic creatures that need to fall once in a while in order to get back up.

Drag Me To Hell

October 25, 2009 by cinejunction

This weekend, I was obsessed with Sam Raimi’s cult victor- Drag Me to Hell. The story is about a twenty-something year old who tries to get a promotion by turning down the first elderly gypsy who condemns her to eternity in hell. Sure, a fatal case of bad luck. I would hate to leave this world severely screwed  in that same caliber.  Demise by our decomposing bodies does not count as injustice, but being dragged to hell because you want to impress some boss Suit to give you a middle management position is unnervingly tragic.

In no particular order, there were elements that are favorable in this movie.

  1. The female protagonist shouts the cry of a warrior and not of a victim! RAR. YAY. :] Damsel in distress- yuck.
  2. The disgusting spew of bugs, guts, and vomit were cartoonishly violent and in the end of each snippet, it remained adequately acceptable. This is a fragile balance to achieve in movie making people.
  3. “Here kitty kitty.”- enough said. If you see it, PETA would frown on it.
  4. The dancing demon possessed human! It was Satan on Broadway.
  5. When our desperate protagonist was eyeing an elderly man with an oxygen mask at the Diner to pass on the cursed button too.
  6. The parking lot fight. Staples away!!!
  7. When she finally gets dragged to hell as her boyfriend witnesses in tears and then cut to the title. It was an exclamation mark to the plot.

One thing I wished they did was put an actual scene of her in hell burning after the entire credits finished rolling. Poor Gal.

Fancy Nancy

I walked through the hand bag section of Nordstroms with my mom.  Juicy Couture  prides itself  on bling branding every merchandise they sell with the Viva Las Vegas   sign and then slapping it with an inflated number that is suppose to convince a buyer to slam down some BIG BENs. Regardless, you must be tragically gulliable, infintely demented, or hypnotized by the surreal sparkles of pretension that overdosed on Novicaine.  Regardless of the shock, we made it to the REDUCED section and our feet touch the ground again, only to be elevated by the eye popping price for a $750 black Marc Jacobs bag and it was half price. If you were to spend 1400 on a bag, then splurge and stupidity fornicated and conceived the consumer.
